Agios Ioannis Renti (Template:Langx) is a suburb and a former municipality in the Piraeus regional unit, lying in the western part of the Athens agglomeration, Greece.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Nikaia-Agios Ioannis Renti, of which it is a municipal unit.<ref name=Kallikratis>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

GeographyEdit

Agios Ioannis Renti is part of Piraeus regional unit, part of Athens urban area, located about Template:Convert west of central Athens and Template:Convert northeast of Piraeus. The municipal unit has an area of 4.524 km2.<ref name=stat01>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> The small river Cephissus runs through it. Two important transport axes pass through the municipality: the A1 motorway (Athens–Thessaloniki–Evzonoi) and the Piraeus–Platy railway, on which it has a passenger station (Rentis) and a large marshalling yard. The Olympiakos FC training center is in this area. The Olympiacos Volleyball stadium also is nearby.

HistoryEdit

Agios Ioannis Renti was part of the municipality of Athens until 1925 when it became a separate community. It was elevated to municipality status in 1946.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref><ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

EconomyEdit

The Central Market of Athens is located in Agios Ioannis Renti. It is the largest central market of vegetables, meat and other foods in Greece.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref><ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> In Agios Ioannis Renti is located one of the most important industrial areas of Athens, in which factories of important companies are based, such as Rolco (Biggest detergent manufacturing company in Greece),<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> Mietsel,<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> Pharmasept<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> and others.
