Early life, family and educationEdit

Linz was born in Santa Barbara, California, the son of Deborah (née Baltaxe), an attorney, and Dr. Daniel Linz, a professor of communication at the University of California, Santa Barbara.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> He has two younger sisters, Lily Alice and Livia. His parents are divorced, and he lived with his mother. The family is Jewish, and Alex had a bar mitzvah ceremony.<ref name= "journal">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

He attended Alexander Hamilton High School in Los Angeles, during which time he was the lead singer of a garage band, The Fez Armada.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>

Acting careerEdit

Linz made his professional acting debut in 1995 on an episode of the television series Cybill.<ref name="nypost">Template:Cite news</ref> He subsequently appeared in several television productions, played Phillip Chancellor IV on the soap opera The Young and the Restless in 1995 for a short period of time.<ref name="nypost" />

He was cast as the son of Michelle Pfeiffer's character in the 1996 feature film One Fine Day.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> His big breakthrough came in the 1997 Christmas film Home Alone 3, but the film received a lukewarm response due to lacking a reprising cast that represented the McCallister family of the previous blockbuster Home Alone feature films.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> In 2001, Linz played the title character in the Disney film Max Keeble's Big Move, which received mixed reviews and was a box-office failure.<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref><ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref>
