This was one of four (4) ROTSE telescopes around the World to detect Gamma ray bursts, with telescopes positioned in Australia, Namibia, Turkey, and Texas.<ref name=":0">{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> The telescope was designed for robotic use, with 45 cm aperture.<ref name=":0" /> The telescope was converted for computer controlled operation and CCD imaging from an older retired Baker-nunn camera.<ref>Template:Cite journal</ref> This is a type of modified Schmidt canera.<ref name=":1">Template:Cite journal</ref>

The telescope has a field of view of 5 degrees by 5 degrees.<ref name=":1" />
