Hamilcar

Hamilcar (Template:Langx, Template:Sc,Template:Sfnp<ref name=g>Template:Harvp.</ref> or {{#invoke:Lang|lang}}, Template:Sc,Template:Citation needed "Melqart is Gracious";<ref name=g/> Template:Langx, Hamílkas;<ref name=g/>) was a common Carthaginian masculine given name. The name was particularly common among the ruling families of ancient Carthage.

• Hamilcar, son of Gisco and grandson of Hanno the Great, led a campaign against Agathocles of Syracuse during the Third Sicilian War. He defeated Agathocles in the Battle of the Himera River in 311 BC. He was captured during the Siege of Syracuse and then killed in 309 BC.
