Soul blues is a style of blues music developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s that combines elements of soul music and urban contemporary music.<ref name="Unterberger"> Template:Cite encyclopedia</ref>

Origin

American singers and musicians who grew up listening to the electric blues by artists such as Muddy Waters,<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> Jimmy Reed, and Elmore James, and soul singers such as Sam Cooke, Ray Charles<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> and Otis Redding<ref>{{#invoke:citation/CS1|citation |CitationClass=web }}</ref> fused blues and soul music.<ref name="Unterberger"/> Bobby Bland was one of the pioneers of this style.<ref name="Unterberger"/>
