In biological classification,<ref name="ICZN" /> a subfamily (Latin: {{#invoke:Lang|lang}}, plural {{#invoke:Lang|lang}}) is an auxiliary (intermediate) taxonomic rank, next below family but more inclusive than genus. Standard nomenclature rules end botanical subfamily names with "-oideae",<ref name=ICN/> and zoological subfamily names with "-inae".<ref name=ICZN/>
