The '''Chilean flamingo''' ('''''Phoenicopterus chilensis''''') is a species of large [[flamingo]] at a height of {{convert|110|–|130|cm|in|abbr=on}} closely related to the [[American flamingo]] and the [[greater flamingo]], with which it was previously considered a [[subspecies]] before being classified as its own species as a result of their lighter color, smaller size and behavioral differences.<ref>{{cite journal | last1 = Knox | first1 = A.G. | last2 = Collinson | first2 = M. | last3 = Helbig | first3 = A.G. | last4 = Parkin | first4 = D.P. | last5 = Sangster | first5 = G. | year = 2002 | title = Taxonomic recommendations for British birds | journal = Ibis | volume = 144 | pages = 707–710 | doi = 10.1046/j.1474-919x.2002.00110.x | doi-access = free }}</ref> The species is listed as [[Near-threatened species|Near Threatened]] on the [[IUCN Red List]].

The species breeds in [[South America]] from [[Ecuador]] and [[Peru]] to [[Chile]] and [[Argentina]] and east to [[Brazil]]; it has been [[Introduced species|introduced]] into [[Germany]]. Like all flamingos, it lays a single chalky-white [[bird egg|egg]] on a mud mound. 

These flamingos are mainly restricted to salt lagoons and [[soda lake]]s but these areas are vulnerable to [[habitat loss]] and [[water pollution]], especially from mining and irrigation which can cause rapid [[Habitat destruction|habitat degradation]].<ref name=":1" />
