The '''Condor Legion''' ({{langx|de|Legion Condor}}) was a unit of military personnel{{Refn|[[Wehrmacht]] soldiers who had been selected for Operation Condor were well-paid, and participation improved their chances for promotion in Germany.{{sfn|Schüler-Springorum|2010|p=109}}|group="nb"|name="volunteer"}} from the [[Luftwaffe|air force]] and [[German Army (1935–1945)|army]] of [[Nazi Germany]]’s [[Wehrmacht]] which served with the [[Nationalist faction (Spanish Civil War)|Nationalist faction]] during the [[Spanish Civil War]]. The legion developed methods of [[strategic bombing]] that were used widely during the [[Second World War]]. The [[bombing of Guernica]] was the Condor Legion's most infamous operation. [[Hugo Sperrle]] commanded the unit's aircraft formations, and [[Wilhelm Ritter von Thoma]] commanded the ground element.
