He was the president of hockey operations and general manager for the [[Nashville Predators]] of the [[National Hockey League]] (NHL) from 1997 to 2023.<ref>{{cite web |title=Nashville Predators Team - David Poile, General Manager |url=https://predators.ice.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=36994 |website=predators.nhl.com |access-date=February 27, 2023}}</ref> He is the son of the former NHL player, coach and executive [[Bud Poile]].
