He was the [[Ontario Liberal Party|Liberal]] member of the [[Legislative Assembly of Ontario]] for [[Willowdale (provincial electoral district)|Willowdale]] from 2003 to 2018. He served in the cabinet of [[Kathleen Wynne]], succeeding Wynne herself as the [[Ministry of Indigenous Affairs (Ontario)|Minister of Aboriginal Affairs]] in 2013 (restyled Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation in 2016) for the full five years and four months length of the [[Wynne ministry|Wynne Ministry]]'s.
