Furchgott]] is widely recognised for this discovery, even going so far as to be a co-recipient of the 1998 [[Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine|Nobel Prize in Medicine]] with his colleagues [[Louis J. Ignarro]] and [[Ferid Murad]].
