He was nominated for an [[Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor|Academy Award]]<ref name="gilbey" /> and [[Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture|Golden Globe Award]] for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Huston Dyer in the musical drama ''[[The Rose (film)|The Rose]]'' (1979).
