He served as the [[Conservative Party (UK)|Conservative]] MP for [[East Yorkshire (UK Parliament constituency)|East Yorkshire]] from [[2001 United Kingdom general election|2001]] to [[2024 United Kingdom general election|2024]], having previously served as the MP for [[Derby North]] from [[1983 United Kingdom general election|1983]] to [[1997 United Kingdom general election|1997]].
