Lances were used for mounted warfare in Assyria as early as {{Nowrap|700 BC}} and subsequently by India, Egypt, China, [[Aswaran|Persia]], [[Hippeus|Greece]], and [[Roman horsemen|Rome]].<ref>Niels M.
