MacKenzie is known for establishing and commanding [[1992 Yugoslav People's Army column incident in Sarajevo|Sector Sarajevo]] as part of the [[United Nations Protection Force]] (UNPROFOR) in the former [[Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia|Yugoslavia]] in 1992. MacKenzie was criticized for his role in the [[Somalia Affair]] and for Canada's [[The Lion, the Fox, and the Eagle|peacekeeping failures in Bosnia]].
