Loosely based on [[William Shakespeare]]'s ''[[The Taming of the Shrew]]'', the project was filmed in [[Technicolor]] and [[Panavision]], and produced by Wayne's company, [[Batjac Productions]]. In 1991, the film entered the [[List of films in the public domain in the United States|public domain in the United States]] because the claimants did not renew its [[copyright registration]] in the 28th year after publication.
