He ruled over the Muslim province of [[Ifriqiya]], and directed the [[Umayyad conquest of Hispania|Islamic conquest]] of the [[Visigothic Kingdom]] that controlled the [[Iberian Peninsula]] and part of what is now southern France ([[Septimania]]).
