The [[observatory]] was founded in 1879, by the banker [[Raphaël Bischoffsheim]]. The architect was [[Charles Garnier (architect)|Charles Garnier]], and [[Gustave Eiffel#Eiffel et Cie|Gustave Eiffel]] designed the main [[dome]].
