Located on the [[Morava (river)|Morava]] River, the city is the ecclesiastical metropolis and was a historical co-capital city of [[Moravia]], before having been occupied by the [[Military of the Swedish Empire|Swedish army]] during the [[Thirty Years' War]]. The historic city centre is well preserved and is protected as [[Cultural monument (Czech Republic)#Monument reservations|urban monument reservation]].
