A '''referee''' is an [[Official#Sports|official]], in a variety of [[sport]]s and competition, responsible for enforcing the [[Regulation of sport|rules of the sport]], including [[sportsmanship]] decisions such as [[ejection (sports)|ejection]]. The official tasked with this job may be known by a variety of other titles  depending on the sport, including ''[[umpire]]'', ''[[#Judges|judge]]'', ''[[arbiter (chess)|arbiter]]'', ''[[Commissaire (cycling)|commissaire]]'', or ''technical official'' (by the [[International Olympic Committee]]).  Referees may be assisted by ''[[linesmen]]'', ''[[timekeeper]]s'', ''[[touch judges]]'', or ''[[video assistant referee]]s'' (VAR).
