A member of the [[Republican Party (United States)|Republican Party]], he became the dean of [[United States congressional delegations from Utah|Utah's congressional delegation]] after the retirement of [[Orrin Hatch]] from the [[United States Senate|U.S. Senate]] in 2019. Prior to his congressional tenure, Bishop was a [[Utah House of Representatives|Utah State Representative]] (1978–1994), including two final years as Speaker of the Utah House of Representatives, as well as Chair of the [[Utah Republican Party]] (1997–2001).
