For men, the sport has been a part of the [[Olympic Games|modern Olympics]] since their [[1896 Summer Olympics|revival]] (1896), and women's competition began in [[1948 Summer Olympics|1948]]. The shot put is part of the most common [[Combined track and field events|combined events]], the [[decathlon]], the [[Women's Heptathlon|women's]] and [[men's heptathlon]] and the [[women's pentathlon]].
