It stands on the north side of [[Holborn Viaduct]] across a crossroads from the [[Old Bailey]], and its [[ecclesiastical parish|parish]] takes in [[Smithfield Market]]. During medieval times, the site lay outside ("without") the [[London Wall|city wall]], west of the [[Newgate]].
