It was built in the [[Bayon]] style largely in the late [[12th century]] and early [[13th century]] and was originally called '''Rajavihara''' ({{langx|km|រាជវិហារ}}, [[Romanization of Khmer#UNGEGN|UNGEGN]]: {{transliteration|km|Réachvĭhar}}, [[Romanization of Khmer#ALA-LC Romanization Tables|ALA-LC]]: {{transliteration|km|Rājvihār}} {{IPA|km|riəc.vihiə|}}; "Royal Monastery").
