Tahlequah is the capital of the two federally recognized Cherokee tribes based in Oklahoma, the modern [[Cherokee Nation]] and the [[United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians]]. Tahlequah is also the [[county seat]] of Cherokee County.<ref name="GR6">{{cite web|url=http://www.naco.org/Counties/Pages/FindACounty.aspx|access-date=2011-06-07|title=Find a County|publisher=National Association of Counties}}</ref> The main campus of [[Northeastern State University]] is located in the city.
