Touch & Go helped to spearhead the nationwide network of underground bands that formed the pre-[[Nirvana (band)|Nirvana]] indie rock scene,<ref name = "Spin 2005">{{Citation | last = Dolan | first = Jon | title = The Revival of Indie Rock | newspaper = Spin | page = 53 | date = January 2005 | url = https://books.google.com/books?id=fyLttHWpa9EC&q=minnesota&pg=PA53 | access-date = 19 April 2015 }}</ref> and helped preside over the shift from the [[hardcore punk]] that then dominated the American underground scene to the more diverse styles of alternative rock emerging at the time.<ref name = "Reynolds 2006">{{cite book | last = Reynolds | first = Simon | title = Rip It Up and Start Again: Postpunk 1978-1984 | url = https://archive.org/details/ripitupstartagai00reyno | url-access = registration | publisher = Penguin Books | date = 2006 | isbn = 978-1-1012-0105-3}}</ref>
