As a player, he was a [[Left winger|winger]] who notably played in the [[Premier League]] for [[Queens Park Rangers F.C.|Queens Park Rangers]], [[West Ham United F.C.|West Ham United]] and [[Manchester City F.C.|Manchester City]]. He also played in the [[Football League]] for [[Blackpool F.C.|Blackpool]] and [[Cardiff City F.C.|Cardiff City]] where he retired in 2008. He has since come out of retirement on two occasions and has featured for non-league sides [[Lancaster City F.C.|Lancaster City]] in 2014 and [[Squires Gate F.C.|Squires Gate]] in 2018. He was capped twelve times by [[England national football team|England]], four of which came in the [[2002 FIFA World Cup]].
