Like [[Beethoven]] later on, he became deaf but continued to compose. He knew [[Handel]], [[Thomas Arne|Arne]], [[Christoph Willibald Gluck|Gluck]], [[Johann Christian Bach|J.C. Bach]], [[Carl Friedrich Abel|Abel]], and a very young [[Mozart]], all of whom respected his work.
