== History == The {{mono|.pl}} domain was created in 1990, following the mitigation of the [[COCOM]] embargo on technological collaboration with post-[[Eastern bloc|communist]] countries. The first [[subdomain]] in {{mono|.pl}} was {{mono|.pwr.pl}}, belonging to the [[Wrocław University of Technology]]. In 2008 the number of registered .pl domain names exceeded one million, whereas at the end of 2013 the registry comprised more than 2.4 million domain names.<ref>{{cite web|title=Statistics of domain names registered in NASK|url=https://www.dns.pl/en/statistics/number_of_active_names_in_DNS_zone|access-date=1 June 2018|website=dns.pl}}</ref><ref name="stat" /> Each domain must be registered in the National Domain Name Registry.
