* [[May 15]] &ndash; Emperor [[Valentinian II]], age 21, dies while advancing into [[Gaul]] against the [[Franks|Frankish]] usurper [[Arbogast (magister militum)|Arbogast]]. He is found [[hanging]] in his residence at [[Vienne, Isère|Vienne]] under unknown circumstances.
