== Life == Rotfeld was born on 4 March 1938, in [[Peremyshliany|Przemyślany]],<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.msz.gov.pl/en/p/msz_en/ministry/polish_diplomacy_archive/former_ministers/adam_daniel_rotfeld_1;jsessionid=DFC17A76D9B98D70644FD20A732C0698.cmsap1p|title=Adam Daniel Rotfeld 5 I 2005 - 31 X 2005|website=www.msz.gov.pl|access-date=2019-03-07}}</ref> near [[Lviv|Lwów]], [[Poland]] (now Lviv, [[Ukraine]]). He survived [[the Holocaust]] in the [[Univ Lavra]], a monastery of the [[Studite Brethren]]. During the war he was among people who received the Paraguayan citizenship certificate issued by [[Ładoś Group]].<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://instytutpileckiego.pl/public/upload/articles_files/LISTA%20LADOSIA-lista-ang(2).pdf|title=Ładoś List - results of research as of 24 October 2019|date=24 October 2019|website=[[Pilecki Institute]]|page=69|access-date=2020-04-07}}</ref> Rotfeld was married to Barbara Sikorska-Rotfeld (died in 2006) and has one daughter, Alicja, born in 1971. Rotfeld studied international law and diplomacy in [[Warsaw]] (1955–1960). He wrote his PhD dissertation on the right of self-determination of people in modern international law at the [[Jagiellonian University]], [[Kraków]] which he defended in 1969. Later, [[habilitation]] on European Security in ''Statu Nascendi''.{{clarify |date=January 2018}} He was appointed professor at [[Warsaw University]] by the President of Poland in 2001.
