==Early life and early career== Zafy was born in [[Ambilobe]], [[Diana, Madagascar|Diana Region]] on 1 May 1927.<ref>[https://books.google.com/books?ei=AHR_Stu0Cp-UygSHsoS-Cg&id=0thyAAAAMAAJ&dq=albert+zafy+%22mai+1927%22&q=%22mai+1927%22 ''Transition démocratique à Madagascar''] (1994), page 54 {{in lang|fr}}.</ref> He studied at the [[University of Montpellier]] in France. After his return to Madagascar he became Minister of Public Health and Social Affairs under [[Gabriel Ramanantsoa]].
