She has two older sisters. They grew up in [[Franklin, Kentucky]], where she graduated from [[Franklin-Simpson High School]] in 1970.<ref>1970 Franklin-Simpson High School yearbook</ref> She attended [[Stephens College]] in [[Columbia, Missouri]], and graduated with a [[bachelor's degree]] in theater.
