==Augmented sixth interval== Augmented sixth {{Image frame|content=<score sound="1"> { \new PianoStaff << \new Staff << \relative c' { \clef treble \key c \minor \time 4/4 fis1 g } >> \new Staff << \relative c' { \clef bass \key c \minor \time 4/4 aes1 g \bar "||" } >> >> } </score>|width=300|caption=The interval of the augmented sixth normally resolves outwards by semitone to an octave.}} The augmented sixth interval is typically between the sixth degree of the minor scale, flatscale, and the raised fourth degree, sharpscale. With standard voice leading, the chord is followed directly or indirectly by some form of the dominant chord, in which both flatscale and sharpscale have resolved to the fifth scale degree, scale. This tendency to resolve outwards to scale is why the interval is spelled as an augmented sixth, rather than enharmonically as a minor seventh (flatscale and flatscale). Although augmented sixth chords are more common in the minor mode, they are also used in the major mode by borrowing flatscale of the parallel minor scale.
