==Biography== Naim was born in [[Barabanki city|Barabanki]],<ref name="DharwadkerRamanujan1994">{{cite book|author1=Vinay Dharwadker|author2=A. K. Ramanujan|title=The Oxford Anthology of Modern Indian Poetry|url=https://archive.org/details/oxfordanthologyo00dhar|url-access=registration|year=1994|publisher=Oxford University Press|isbn=978-0-19-562865-4|page=[https://archive.org/details/oxfordanthologyo00dhar/page/238 238]}}</ref> India, and educated at [[Lucknow University]], [[Lucknow]], [[Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute|Deccan College]], [[Pune|Poona]], and the [[University of California, Berkeley]]. In 1961, he joined the faculty of the Department of South Asian Languages and Civilizations at the [[University of Chicago]], which he chaired from 1985 to 1991. He retired in 2001. He was a national fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, in 2009, and a visiting professor at the Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, in 2003.{{citation needed|date=September 2020}}
