==History== Ceylon was [[plat]]ted in 1899.<ref name="history">{{cite book | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=OspBAQAAMAAJ&pg=PA54 | title=A History of the Origin of the Place Names Connected with the Chicago & North Western and Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railways | author=Chicago and North Western Railway Company | year=1908 | page=54}}</ref> It was named after the island of [[British Ceylon|Ceylon]], which was then a British colony,<ref name="history" /> and is now the nation of [[Sri Lanka]]. A post office has been in operation in Ceylon since 1899.<ref>{{cite web | url=http://www.postalhistory.com/postoffices.asp?task=display&state=MN&county=Martin | title=Martin County | publisher=Jim Forte Postal History | accessdate=28 February 2015}}</ref> The name "Chanhassen" was already in use, so a group of men sitting in Tom Sahr's general store suggested "Ceylon", for the boxes of [[Ceylon tea]] in the store.<ref>{{cite web | url=https://cityofceylon.com/ | title=History of Ceylon, Minnesota | accessdate=22 September 2018}}</ref>
