== Name and location == Chestnuts Long Barrow is a [[Scheduled monument|scheduled ancient monument]],{{sfn|Alexander|1961|p=1}} standing on private land belonging to a neighbouring house, Rose Alba.{{sfn|Philp|Dutto|2005|p=4}} It lies on the slope of a hill and borrows its name from the Chestnuts, an area of woodland that crowns the hill.{{sfnm|1a1=Alexander|1y=1961|1p=1|2a1=Ashbee|2y=2000|2p=325}} This name was given to the monument in the mid-20th century; it had previously been known as Stony Warren or Long Warren.{{sfnm|1a1=Alexander|1y=1961|1p=1|2a1=Ashbee|2y=2000|2p=325}} The barrow is in the [[Lower Greensand|greensand]] belt, {{convert|100|ft|order=flip|abbr=off}} above [[sea level]].{{sfn|Alexander|1961|p=1}} The underlying geology is a soft [[sandstone]] covered with a stratum of white sand.{{sfn|Alexander|1961|p=2}}
