Jones grew up in [[Southern California]]. After graduating from [[Westlake High School (California)|Westlake High School]], Jones emerged as a talented player in [[College soccer in the United States|college]], making the [[University of California, Los Angeles|UCLA]] soccer team as a non-scholarship player, ultimately becoming one of its most successful soccer-playing graduates.
