==Background== Zimmer was born in [[Kitchener, Ontario]]. He attended University of Ottawa Law School and was called to the Bar of Ontario. From 1982 to 1984 Zimmer was Director of the [[Humane Society]] and from 1993 to 1995 was President of the [[Alzheimer Society of Canada]].
