== History == The village was first mentioned in 1436 as Cogersdyck, and means "land on water".<ref>{{cite web|url=https://etymologiebank.nl/trefwoord/dekoog |title=De Koog - (geografische naam) |website=Etymologiebank |access-date=2 May 2022 |language=nl}}</ref> De Koog is a road village which developed in the dunes during the 14th century.<ref name="monument"/> It used to be a fishing village up to the middle of the 16th century until the Anegat silted. In 1570, the village was flooded, and in 1840 was home to 81 people.<ref name="plaats">{{cite web|url=https://www.plaatsengids.nl/de-koog |title=De Koog |website=Plaatsengids |access-date=2 May 2022 |language=nl}}</ref> In 1896, a pavilion was established. A hotel followed in 1908, and De Koog developed into a tourist resort.<ref name="monument">{{cite news|url=https://www.dbnl.org/tekst/sten009monu11_01/sten009monu11_01_0048.php |title=De Koog |author=Ronald Stenvert & Saskia van Ginkel-Meester |publisher=Waanders |location=Zwolle |year=2006 |language=nl |access-date=2 May 2022}}</ref> After World War II, it developed into the main beach village due to its proximity to the sea.<ref name="plaats"/>
