There are various terms that used interchangeably with ''development aid'' in some contexts but possess different meanings in others.

* ''Development cooperation'': In the early 21st century, ''development cooperation'' has become a key term in a discourse associated with the [[Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation|Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation]].
