==Early life== Dawes was born in [[Silver Spring, Maryland]], on November 20, 1976, to Don and Loretta Dawes of [[Takoma Park, Maryland]]. She enrolled in gymnastics at age 6 with coach [[Kelli Hill]] and won her first competition at age 9.
