==Early life== She was born Frances Ruth Roche at [[Sandringham House#Park House|Park House]], on the royal estate at [[Sandringham House|Sandringham]], Norfolk, on 20 January 1936.<ref>England & Wales, Birth Index, Jan–Feb–Mar 1936, 4b 344, Freedbridge Lynn, Norfolk</ref><ref name="cor4june">{{cite news|last=Corby|first=Tom|date=4 June 2004|title=Frances Shand Kydd|newspaper=The Guardian|url=https://www.theguardian.com/news/2004/jun/04/guardianobituaries.monarchy|access-date=27 May 2013}}</ref> Her birth was on the same day as the death of [[George V]].
