==Types== There are three basic types of freshwater ecosystems: [[Lentic system ecology|Lentic]] (slow moving water, including [[Pond|pools]], [[Pond|ponds]], and [[Lake|lakes]]), [[Lotic System Ecology|lotic]] (faster moving water, for example [[Stream|streams]] and [[River|rivers]]) and [[Wetland|wetlands]] (areas where the soil is saturated or inundated for at least part of the time).
