==Early years== Tate was born in [[Stuttgart]],<ref name="anybodylistening_tate" /> which was then part of [[West Germany]], to American parents. Tate had an interest in music from an early age. He was especially interested in symphonic works. He enrolled in [[Tacoma Community College]] after graduating from high school in 1977, but dropped out after a year.
