==Etymology==
The name ''Gledhow'' is first attested the period 1334–37 as ''Gledhou''. Its etymology is uncertain. The ''gled-'' element could plausibly come from the [[Old English]] words ''gleoda'' ('kite, bird of prey') or ''glēd'' ('embers, burning coals').
