== Aspects == Various aspects are considered relevant to the physical appearance of humans. === Natural differences in body appearance === {{main|Anatomical variation}} Humans are distributed across the globe except for Antarctica and form a variable species. In adults, the average weight varies from around 40 kg (88 pounds) for the smallest and most lightly built tropical people to around 80 kg (176 pounds) for the heavier northern peoples.<ref>{{cite web|title=Anthropometric Reference Data for Children and Adults: United States, 2003β2006|url=https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhsr/nhsr010.pdf|access-date=9 March 2014}}</ref> Size also varies between the sexes, with the [[sexual dimorphism]] in humans being more pronounced than that of [[Common chimpanzee|chimpanzee]]s, but less than the dimorphism found in gorillas.<ref>{{cite journal|last=Shea|first=Brian T.|title=The ontogeny of sexual dimorphism in the African apes|journal=American Journal of Primatology|date=1985|volume=8|issue=2|pages=183β188|doi=10.1002/ajp.1350080208|pmid=31986820|s2cid=85730045}}<!--|access-date=9 March 2014--></ref> The colouration of skin, hair and eyes also varies considerably, with darker pigmentation dominating in tropical climates and lighter in polar regions.
