The impact factor was devised by [[Eugene Garfield]], the founder of the [[Institute for Scientific Information]] (ISI) in Philadelphia. Impact factors began to be calculated yearly starting from 1975 for journals listed in the ''[[Journal Citation Reports]]'' (JCR).
