The eight-lane freeway travels north through the residential [[Waipio, Hawaii|Waipio]] neighborhood and intersects Ka Uka Boulevard near several retailers and warehouses. The freeway narrows to four lanes as it approaches [[Wahiawa, Hawaii|Wahiawa]] and turns north to travel around [[Wheeler Army Airfield]].
