Doohan's 1996 autobiography recounted his father's serious [[alcoholism]].<ref name="auto" /> The family moved from Vancouver to [[Sarnia]], [[Ontario]]. Doohan attended high school at [[Sarnia Collegiate Institute and Technical School]], where he excelled in mathematics and science.
